What is WRAP?
The Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) is a personalized wellness and recovery system created by the Copeland Center. It helps individuals monitor their wellness, identify early warning signs of distress, and develop action plans for times when they face challenges. This program is ideal for those dealing with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), and mental health issues stemming from trauma such as human trafficking, domestic violence, and more.
Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
WRAP is a self-directed wellness and recovery process that helps people identify what supports their well-being, recognize when things are changing, and develop personalized plans for responding in ways that work for them.
Bring Freedom offers WRAP through facilitated learning experiences that give participants time to explore the process, develop their own plans, and learn alongside others in a supportive environment.
Key Elements of WRAP
Wellness Toolbox
Participants identify activities, resources, supports, and strategies they can draw on to support their wellness.
Daily Plan
Participants explore what they are like when they are doing well, what they need to do each day to maintain wellness, and additional things they may choose to do.
Stressors and Action Plans
Participants identify outside events or circumstances that may affect their wellness and develop plans for how they want to respond.
Early Warning Signs
Participants learn to recognize subtle internal signs that things may be changing and identify actions they can take early.
When Things Are Breaking Down
Participants develop plans for times when signs become more serious and additional support or action may be helpful.
Crisis Plan
Participants document their preferences for support during a crisis, including information that can help others understand how they want to be supported if they are temporarily unable to make decisions for themselves.
Post-Crisis Plan
Participants consider what they may need following a crisis and develop a personalized approach for returning to their everyday wellness plan.
Why WRAP?
WRAP is designed around self-direction, personal choice, and hope. It does not prescribe one pathway to wellness or recovery.
Participants determine what belongs in their own plan based on their experiences, values, strengths, supports, and goals. WRAP can complement many different approaches to wellness and recovery rather than requiring someone to follow a particular recovery pathway.
That makes it useful well beyond substance-use recovery alone.
Who Can Benefit?
WRAP can be used by people from many different backgrounds who want a structured way to think about their wellness, recognize changes, identify supports, and plan for difficult periods.
Bring Freedom's WRAP programming may be particularly relevant for people navigating:
Mental health and emotional wellness
Substance-use or alcohol recovery
Trauma and major life transitions
Stress and changing life circumstances
Ongoing recovery and wellness
A desire to become more intentional about maintaining personal well-being
Participants do not need to share a diagnosis or identify with a particular recovery pathway to benefit from WRAP.
